Overview

Twenty-five years later, the events of September 11, 2001, remain a defining moment in our nation’s history. This September 11, the City of Suwanee will gather at Town Center Park’s Remembrance Plaza to pay tribute to those who lost their lives, honor those who were impacted, and reflect on the lasting impact of that day throughout the country.

The Remembrance Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in the quiet section of the park that is home to the city’s 9/11 memorial, Remembrance. Suwanee Mayor Jimmy Burnette will welcome attendees before the North Gwinnett Air Force JROTC leads the Pledge of Allegiance and Presentation of Colors. The North Gwinnett High School Chorus will then perform the National Anthem.

The ceremony will also feature a special guest speaker, Tracy D. Young who is a former Associate Director of Communications under President George W. Bush. She will share reflections on the impact of the attacks on our country, as well as her own experience of being evacuated from the White House that day. First Responders will be in attendance, including Suwanee Police officers and firefighters from Gwinnett County Station 13. Remembrance artist Marc Moulton will also be present to talk with guests.

The Suwanee Creek Chapter of the NSDAR will lead a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of those whose lives were lost. Afterward, those gathered will be invited to spend a moment in quiet reflection at Remembrance Plaza. Mayor Burnette will offer closing remarks before bagpiper David Gregory concludes the ceremony with a musical selection.

The 25th anniversary offers an opportunity for our community to pause together and remember. Residents are invited to join us at Town Center Park for this quiet ceremony as we honor the lives forever changed by September 11 and reflect on the strength, courage, and unity that followed.
