The Story Behind The Perez Collective at Spring View Venue

Some business stories feel like fate—woven together by experience, passion, and a little bit of magic. That’s exactly the case with Perez Collective Events, a boutique planning and design studio nestled in the scenic charm of Spring View Venue. When we sat down with the founder, Melinda Perez, we quickly realized her journey was anything but ordinary. Perez Collective Events is known for its thoughtful approach to event planning, its dedication to unforgettable experiences, and, yes, the property with the hilarious herd of goats.

We talked with the founder about how it all began, the beauty (and chaos) of farm life, and her dream to become a local legend in the world of events. Spoiler alert: she’s well on her way.

Q: How did your business get started? How does Spring View Venue tie in with Perez Collective Events?

A: "Where I am today feels like the result of a hundred years in the making. My journey in interior and event design began in 2008 in New York City, before I even formally studied the field. I was fortunate to gain hands-on experience early on, working alongside high-profile design firms and contributing to projects like NYC Fashion Week, DIFFA’s Dining by Design, showroom and home remodels, retail and restaurant window displays, and themed tablescapes for corporate fundraisers.

Over the years, I explored other passions—health and wellness, early childhood education, and childcare—but I never lost my creative spark. Eventually, my husband and I made the intentional move to what was then known as Alegre Farm, driven by a desire to embrace homesteading and a slower, more connected lifestyle. We joined the farm’s event staff and spent several months learning animal care, land stewardship, and the rhythms of farm life.

During this time, the farm changed ownership and underwent major renovations. As the property evolved, so did my role. On what is now called Springview Venue, the opportunity to step back into leadership as a venue coordinator, planner, and designer felt like a natural homecoming. That’s when Perez Collective Events was born—rooted in creativity, hospitality, and excellence, and uniquely positioned to offer one-of-a-kind experiences across the diverse and beautiful spaces of this multi-site property."

Q: What struggles have you faced along the way, and how did you overcome them?

A: "The farm has its own unique challenges, and winter has definitely been the toughest season. From frozen water lines and buckets to making sure all the animals are getting enough calories and nutrients, it requires constant attention. We’ve had to be proactive and creative with our solutions, whether that means insulating pipes or making multiple trips out to the pastures to check on everyone and ensure they’re warm and healthy.

On the event side, the height of summer brings its own set of challenges, especially when setting up when it’s 90 degrees and humid. Our solution? Set up in the morning when it’s cooler, and celebrate in the evening once the heat starts to ease. Flexibility and planning ahead have been key to making it all work."

Q: What advice would you give to someone wanting to start their own business?

A: "There’s no shortage of advice out there when it comes to starting a business, but one truth continues to ring loud and clear for me: You cannot do it alone. Truly grasp that—then act on it. Share your vision. Speak your needs out loud. When you do, the right people will start to show up. I’m living proof of that right now."

Q: What is your favorite part of the property & why?

A: "Of all the naturally occurring vignettes and scenic views across the property, my favorite part will always be the animals, especially the goats. Each one has a name, a big personality, and a way of keeping things interesting. They’re hilarious, sassy, and incredibly sweet… when they want to be! We currently have 14 goats, and adore them all—from Wren, our wise matriarch, to Aiden, the notorious escape artist, to Cow, the newest buckling to join the herd. Every day with them is filled with laughter, surprises, and just the right amount of mischief. They truly bring the farm to life."

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

A: "There are so many fun and exciting moments in this job, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the entire planning process. From space planning and design mock-ups to vendor coordination, I love all the behind-the-scenes details that bring an event to life. It’s where the vision starts to take shape—and that’s where the magic begins for me."

Q: What is the hardest part about your job?

A: "For me, the hardest part is definitely the physical setup of the various event spaces across the property. I’m not bouncing around like I did in my 20s—but don’t think for a second that I’m sitting it out! It’s tough work, no doubt, but seeing the transformation of a space and the guests’ reactions makes every bit of effort worth it. The joy and beauty that come from it completely overshadow the labor that goes into it."

Q: What goals do you have for Perez Collective Events?

A: "It might sound unconventional, but I’m not aiming for national or global expansion—and I’m okay with that. If it happens, great! But my real goal is to become a local legend. I want to build a community of event vendors so strong and in sync that clients feel like we’re a packaged deal. A team you can count on—where hiring me means you’re also getting access to professionals who are dedicated, communicative, and fun to work with. My goal is to create a trusted network that consistently delivers unforgettable events, right here in our own backyard."
