Q: How did your business start?
A: Kurt's opened its doors 40 years ago, fulfilling my father's long-time dream. Like many chefs, he believed his true calling was to own his own restaurant.
Q: What challenges have you faced along the way?
A: Every day presents a new challenge. Although the challenges vary, creating a satisfying work environment in the fast-paced, physically and mentally draining world of a chef is a constant challenge. Additionally, meeting the demands of guests who are never truly satisfied can make many regret the decision to open their own restaurant.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: The instant gratification this job provides is immensely rewarding. Creating a dish or a dinner from scratch, having it eaten and critiqued in a short amount of time, and receiving either praise or criticism almost immediately is incredibly fulfilling.
Q: What is your least favorite part of your job/line of work?
A: The fact that we can't do everything ourselves and must rely on others to deliver the dining experience we strive for is a constant challenge. Although I have a loyal staff, sometimes ideas and projects get misguided due to communication breakdowns.
Q: What goals do you have for yourself and your business?
A: Since Kurt passed away last year, my goal has been to continue his legacy with the business. I am also determined to create a comfortable and secure environment for my mother, ensuring she is well taken care of and wants for nothing.
Q: Any fun facts about the business that you want people to know?
A: A fun fact is that it doesn't matter if it's a kitchen in Germany, in the South or one in California; the same mix of workers exists all over the world. The culinary field has mirrored personalities in every country. If you're good at what you do, you can travel anywhere and find a job in any restaurant around the world. I know this because I am blessed to have had the opportunity to do so.
