City Series: Lilburn

We love Lilburn, and you will too. From fun parks and exciting events to delectable restaurants, including one in a double-decker bus, there’s so much to enjoy.

Rebecca Baumann, Lilburn’s Communications Director, shares her favorite things about the city in our latest City Series installment.

1. Describe your city in one word.

Charming.

2. Tell me about any new developments that are happening.

There are a number of exciting changes taking place in Lilburn, with Old Town Lilburn serving as the hub of activity.

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) currently has several projects underway, including The Porchline, a 269-unit luxury apartment community being developed in partnership with RangeWater. The project also includes a shared public/private parking deck and is slated for completion in Winter 2026/2027. Parking has long been a challenge in Old Town, and this deck will be a tremendous asset for residents, visitors, and local businesses.

Additional momentum continues with an assemblage at the corner of First Avenue and Main Street, where site development is underway and vertical construction is anticipated to start by the first quarter of 2027. The DDA has also recently acquired a parcel along Main Street, creating even more opportunity for thoughtful future development.

In February 2026, the City of Lilburn will begin work with a planning consultant on a Downtown Master Plan. Through a community charrette process, residents and stakeholders will help shape a shared vision for Old Town as the plan comes to life.

3. What upcoming events are you most excited about and why?

Lilburn is known for bringing the community together through memorable events, and several favorites are always at the top of our list.

Sparkle in the Park, the city’s much-loved Independence Day celebration, continues to be a highlight each summer. With live music, family activities, and a spectacular fireworks show, it’s a tradition that draws residents and visitors together to celebrate our nation’s birthday.

Another signature event is Holiday Lights & Flight Fest, where thousands gather at Lilburn City Park to experience the magic of the season. The evening features festive activities and the lighting of the tree, all culminating in a breathtaking drone light show, with illuminated drones taking to the sky to create holiday images above the park — a truly unforgettable experience.

4. What’s your favorite event and why?

In 2026, my favorite event was Holiday Lights & Flight Fest. Seeing Lilburn City Park transformed for the season — with festive activities, the lighting of the tree, and families gathered together — truly captured the spirit of our community. The evening concluded with a stunning drone light show, as illuminated drones filled the sky with holiday images, creating a magical experience for all ages. It was a wonderful reminder of how special it is when our community comes together to celebrate.

5. What must-try restaurants should visitors know about?

Old Town Lilburn offers a variety of dining experiences that showcase the city’s charm and flavor. Locals love 1910 Public House for its seasonal farm-to-table cuisine, while Haven Bodega is known for its mouthwatering sandwiches, creative coffeehouse offerings, and selection of local market items. Just steps away, Agavero Parkside is a favorite for tacos and margaritas, and The Bubbly Goat invites guests to relax with a glass of wine on its outdoor deck.

Just down the street from Old Town, Le Sorelle features classic Italian cuisine in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

For those seeking a truly immersive cultural dining experience, Plaza Las Americas offers an array of international flavors, specialty shops, and authentic cuisine that reflect the diversity of the Lilburn community.

6. What are some unique outdoor/recreation experiences people can participate in?

Lilburn offers a variety of outdoor experiences that encourage residents and visitors to get outside and explore. The city’s 4.2-mile Greenway Trail is a favorite for walking, running, and biking, connecting neighborhoods and providing a scenic way to enjoy the outdoors.

Lilburn City Park is always buzzing with activity and serves as a central gathering place for the community. The park features playgrounds, walking paths, and hosts many of the city’s signature events throughout the year — making it a destination for both everyday recreation and special occasions.

7. Where’s your favorite place to shop in the city?

While Lilburn is continuing to expand its retail offerings, shopping in Old Town Lilburn and Plaza Las Americas provides visitors with locally owned boutiques, specialty shops, and a one-of-a-kind community atmosphere.

8. What’s something people might not know about your city?

Something many people may not realize is how intentionally Lilburn is working to shape its future. The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) partners with investors and developers through public/private partnerships to attract new shopping, dining, and gathering spaces.

That work is guided by long-range planning efforts, including the Comprehensive Plan, which establishes a citywide vision for growth, and the Downtown Master Plan, which focuses specifically on Old Town. Together, these tools help ensure Lilburn grows thoughtfully — balancing development with the character and charm residents and visitors value.
