From small-town charm to a thriving destination, the City of Sugar Hill continues to grow.

Director of Communications Victoria Richburg shares her insights on the city’s transformation and future plans.

1. Describe your city in one word.

Sweet.🍭

2. Tell me about any new developments that are happening.

The City is continuing to invest in community-focused amenities, including a new inclusive playground designed to be accessible and welcoming for children of all abilities. It’s still in the early stages of planning; this will be an exciting addition to Sugar Hill’s Parks & Recreation offerings.

3. What upcoming events are you most excited about and why?

Trick or Treat on West Broad Street in October. It’s one of our most anticipated events, bringing families downtown for a festive evening filled with costumes, candy, and community fun. It’s always great to see the creativity in costumes, and the night wraps up with a spooky movie at The Bowl, making for a great time!

4. What’s your favorite event and why?

The Sugar Rush Arts Festival. It brings incredible artists, live entertainment, and so much energy to downtown. It’s such a great way to experience the creative side of Sugar Hill.

5. What must-try restaurants should visitors know about?

Indio Brewing Indio Brewing recently opened their kitchen, serving up tacos, empanadas, and burgers alongside your favorite brews. August Swine BBQ has also joined the downtown area, offering authentic Southern-style barbecue with high-quality, pasture-raised Heritage Berkshire pork and chicken.

6. What are some unique outdoor/recreation experiences people can participate in?

Sugar Hill Greenway offers 6 miles (out of a planned 16.5-mile trail) of scenic trails perfect for walking, running, or biking, connecting neighborhoods to parks and downtown. The E Center provides year-round recreation, fitness programs, and activities, residents can even sign up for an annual membership for just $10.

7. Where’s your favorite place to shop in the city?

Lillies Boutique, it’s a go-to for stylish pieces you won’t see everywhere else.

8. What’s something people might not know about your city?

Sugar Hill’s name has a bit of mystery behind it. The story is that on one of the freight trips a heavily loaded wagon lost a wheel on a high hill and spilled a part of its load, including several large bags of sugar. The wheel was repaired and the wagon reloaded - except for the sugar, which had broken open and spilled on the hill. The area became known as "The hill where the sugar spilled."
