Meet marc at Chateau Elan

Of course, you can't actually meet marc.

But, you can try some delicious dishes at the new restaurant, located inside the winery at Chateau Elan

marc is a term you'll recognize if you're big into wine making. If you're not, it's "the grapes contained in the wine press and the residue, as skins and pips, remaining after the juice is expressed." Basically, it's what's left over after the grapes are pressed to make wine. While it may seem strange, marc can be used to make more wine.

This term fueled the name and idea behind Chateau Elan's newest eatery. marc aims to "use local ingredients and elevate them." You'll find seasonal, local ingredients in every dish.

Before I even ordered my meal, the server brought out a basket of fresh French rolls and butter blended with seaweed, mirin and soy sauce. I could have eaten the whole basket, but I restrained myself. After that bread, I ordered more bread. The avocado toast appetizer includes fresh avocado slices on pumpernickel with radish and cotija cheese. It was the perfect start to the meal.

I ordered the spinach salad with fresh, Georgia shrimp for my entree. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned and complemented the apples, feta, sunflower seed, shaved fennel and strawberry rhubarb vinaigrette. Other lunch entrees I'd recommend include the salmon and the Georgia shrimp and grits.

For dessert, I devoured the most phenomenal rosemary chocolate cake I think I've ever eaten. I was lucky enough to have the pastry chef come out and describe the dish to me. She talked about the dish as if she was writing a poem. I am also that passionate about desserts... I just can't make them like this.

The dome cake sat on a bed of coconut, and was served with a caramel coconut sort of icing on the side. It also came with candied pecans and a sprig of rosemary for garnish.

All in all, my lunch was amazing, and I can't wait to go back for dinner. marc is also open for brunch on Sundays. The menu is always changing, so comment below and let us know what dishes are your favorite.

There are always events happening at Chateau Elan, so be sure to plan for other fun things to do while you're at the resort.
