50 FREE (or almost free) things to do in Gwinnett

Most of the free activities are noted below. Admission charges apply to some items on the list but they are minimal (around $10 per person). 1. Take a free tour of the BAPS Hindu Mandir (Temple). No religious affiliations needed. Check the website before arrival due to dress code requirements (ie. no shorts, sleeveless tops, etc). Donations welcome.

 

2. Calling all history buffs! Free admission is not the only reason to visit the Gwinnett History Museum and Lawrenceville Female Seminary. You can also see historic artifacts related to Gwinnett’s history, like the very first typewriter from Gwinnett’s historic courthouse and or desks from when the Female Seminary was still around. This location is listed on the National Register for Historic Places. Donations requested in lieu of admission.

 

3. Norcross Gallery & Studios is a quaint little volunteer-run art gallery off the beaten path. You can experience rotating art exhibitions year round. Kuzdu also offers art classes for your enjoyment, but those come at a bit more of a cost.

 

4. Cool off by playing in the fountains of Gwinnett! Suwanee Town Park, Duluth Town Green, Sugar Hill, Graves Park, E.E. Robinson Park and Mall of Georgia each offer interactive fountains for residents and visitors to use free of charge.

 

5. You can find a lot of free music and movies series in Gwinnett, including Suwanee, Norcross, Mall of Georgia, Sugar Hill and Duluth, Check our calendar of events for a full list of things to do in Gwinnett.

 

6. Lionheart Theatre puts on a lot of great shows. Sometimes, you can even catch a performance for around $10.

 

7. Lilburn Splash Pad is the perfect place to take your kiddo so they can cool off and run around. 

 

8. Southeastern Railway Museum stands just off Buford Highway in Duluth, and serves as the state’s official transportation museum. The museum offers exhibits, education and events for the whole family. Kids are $16 and adults are $18

 

9. The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center (GEHC) has one of the best outdoor trails in Gwinnett. Walk from their building on a quiet, scenic trail near 985 through the woods near I-85. The museum features science and cultural related exhibits. GEHC also offers summer camps and classes for kids. Outdoor trails and admission to the museum are free.

 

10. The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning always has something going. You'll find rotating exhibitions in their various galleries. They also host events, like Toddler Friday (just $5!). General admission is always free.

 

11. Tribble Mill Park offers 700 scenic acres on the edge of Lawrenceville. Need we say more? Grab the kids and get outside. It's totally free to visit the park.

 

12. Learn a new sport! Alexander Park is home to an 18-hole disc golf course. Maple Creek Park has a 9-hole disc golf course and the city rents out equipment. 

 

13. Gwinnett has numerous parks offering quality tennis courts for your use. Rates vary from $4/hour to $10 per 1.5 hours. The County also runs Hudlow Tennis Center, Mountain Park Tennis Center and Rock Springs Tennis Center.

 

14. Each and every Friday night from 5-8pm at Best Friend Park in Norcross (unless there is a rental scheduled) you can enjoy hours of badminton fun for just $2! All skill levels welcome.

 

15. Bring a picnic lunch, walk on the beautiful scenic trails, catch the Lasershow or enjoy a walk up the mountain at Stone Mountain Park. You'll have to pay a $20 vehicle entry, but it'll be worth all the memories.

 

16. Head into downtown Norcross for superior tasting experience. At VSOP Olive Oil & Vinegar Taproom, you can sample dozens of specialty oils and vinegars. They also carry handmade soaps and other products.

 

17. Take a free outdoor walking tour around SculpTour in Suwanee Town Center, and enjoy the art work of some very talented folk.

 

18. Show off your ice skating skills at the Atlanta IceForum in Duluth.

 

19. If you love to eat, check out Simply Done Donuts in Duluth. You can get two 'nuts for just $3. With flavors like Smorelicios and Samoa, you're going to want to get more than that.

 

20. Take a stroll around Sims Lake Park in Suwanee, which offers a nice running/walking trail around the lake and through the woods 

 

21. Head to Taste of Britain for an international experience. They specialize in products from the UK, and a lot of their European teas and candies come in under $10.

 

22. See the Buford Town Park Splash Pad lit up at night with different colors. 

 

23. Tickets for a Gwinnett Stripers at Coolray Field start at just $9! You don't have to go into the city for exciting family fun.

 

24. Save big with Monday Night Madness at Main Event for as little at $10.95!

 

25. Get away and play at Stars and Strikes! Bowling, arcade games, laser tag and bumper cars are the perfect recipe for fun. Prices vary per activity.

 

26. You can enjoy some wonderful music at Everett's Music Barn. Most concerts are free, but the barn does survive on donations if you're feeling generous.

 

27. Former cotton farm, McDaniel Farm, has been recreated a passive park that resembles a 1930’s farm. This is a great, free educational experience.

 

28. Get to know Gwinnett's local breweries, like Slow Pour, Good Word, and StillFire, by stopping by their tasting rooms. Tastes can be pretty cheap! If you're into craft beer, stop by Exhibit A(le) in Lawrenceville or Grayson. Samples are $1.50 a piece, or you can get four samples for $5. 29. The International Night Market Atlanta hosts various festive and educational programs to help bring multi-cultural festivals to various cities, See their upcoming events to see if there is one near you! 

 

30. Duncan Creek Park in Dacula and DeShong Park in Stone Mountain offer skating complexes for skateboarding, free of charge.

 

31. View the eclectic pieces created by numerous local artists at Tannery Row Artist Colony in Buford. Various artists in the colony also offer classes.

 

32. Bring the whole family and Fido to the Pinckneyville Park dog park for a fun time.

 

33. Take a stroll around  the Vines Gardens property and view their glorious rose garden that is open to the public

 

34. The Veterans War Memorial Museum is a free museum honoring soldiers, located inside the historic Gwinnett Courthouse in Lawrenceville.

 

35. Norcross hosts a First Friday concert series to help kick off the first Friday of every month! Held at the Norcross Community Center from 7 pm - 9 pm.

 

36. See unique art at R Alexander Fine Art, a gallery and creative studio in Peachtree Corners.

 

37. Check out Family Fun Fridays at Adrenaline Climbing for savings.

 

38. Lunar Mini Golf at Sugarloaf Mills offers indoor glow-in-the-dark mini golf for kids. It costs just $8 per child, and for an extra dollar, you can get a glow necklace, too.

 

39. Gwinnett has a great selection of unique murals for you to enjoy. Spend the day mural spotting and maybe explore a new city. 

 

40. Gwinnett has a number of parks with seasonal and year-round aquatic centers. If you're in the mood for a swim, check these out. Admission is typically $10.50 or less.

 

41. Visit Sparkles Family Fun Center of Gwinnett, Skate-a-long USA or Skate Country for some affordable roller skating fun. Be sure to check out their specials online before heading out.

 

42. Take your four-legged friend on a new adventure to Chattapoochee Dog Park in Duluth.

 

43. Aurora Theatre puts on award-winning plays throughout the year. They also host Aurora Children's Playhouse. The theatre works to assemble the best children's performances in the region. Tickets are just $7.

 

44. Visit the Norcross Gallery and Art Studio, they always have beautiful exhibitions by renowned artists.  

 

45. If you're craving a day on the water, check out Lanier Park in Buford. It's just $5 per vehicle and $2 per person, and you'll enjoy beautiful beaches and a picnic area.

 

46. Immerse yourself in classic and contemporary art at Sugar Hill's new City Art Gallery. The bright and airy space casts a spotlight on an eclectic mix of changeable featured works and traveling exhibitions from local and non-local artists.

 

47. Stroll through Suwanee on the Suwanee Creek Greenway, which connects almost 400 acres of park land.

 

48. The Gwinnett County Public Library has all kinds of amazing programming for folks of all ages.

 

49. Stop by Downtown Norcross and visit the Fire Station Museum, where kids and adults will be entertained. Take a look at a restored firetruck along with other fire artifacts. Call the Welcome Center before visiting (678-421-2048). 

 

50. Take in some history. Head over to the Museum of Buford to learn more about this historic cities past. Admission is free.
