Gwinnett Environment & Heritage Center (GEHC)

The GEHC is Gwinnett County's first LEED Gold certified "green" building. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance, environmentally friendly building. Some of its features include focusing on Sustainability, a Green Roof, Pervious Pavement, and a Water Feature. 

Group Planner Tour Guide

Our programs offer two hours of tailored instruction to suit each school’s unique needs. With minimum class size of 15 students, the maximum capacity can vary. Due to the popularity of our high-quality field study programs, we recommend booking in advance. Reservations are required.

Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center Exhibits

STEAM Lab: Visit the interactive STEAM (Science – Technology – Engineering – Arts- Math) Lab. Kids of all ages are invited to explore different themes each month through hands-on activities highlighting the application of scientific concepts found in daily life. 

Sterner Stream

Named in memory of Brian Sterner, a local environmental educator, the Sterner Stream is a habitat where various turtles, fish, frogs, and aquatic macroinvertebrates swim and hide amongst a diverse collection of thriving wetland plants. 

Water Ways

Step back in time as you take a journey to uncover the impact our ancestors had on the environment and prepare for an eco-friendly future! From early Gwinnett settlement to modern marvels of engineering, this travel-through-time experience is even a unique spot for an evening cocktail hour.

Chesser-Williams House

Located just a few hundred yards from GEHC, the Chesser-Williams House dates back to the 1850s. It was built in the I-house architectural style: two stories high, two rooms long, and one room deep. Significant features include stenciled paintings on the interior and exterior walls done by a traveling German painter in exchange for room and board.

Embark on an exploration to uncover the origins of water and its fascinating journey from source to drain. Perfect for adventurers of all ages, this exhibit invites you to trace water's path from your home to the wastewater treatment plant and beyond. Along the way, unravel the mysteries of a topography map's secret code, delve into the dynamic states of the water cycle, and discover a wealth of knowledge through play.
